A handful of studies have confirmed the ability of cannabis to help reduce or eliminate certain cancers

There is no doubt that cannabis has healing benefits, and it has been used for centuries as part of herbal remedies. Several studies have discovered, across the past few years, how cannabis can actively help with the treatment of various cancers, and can even be a cure for some of them. According to scientific evidence, a number of studies suggest that marijuana can help cancer patients to manage a whole lot of symptoms besides cancer itself.

Currently, cannabis has been showcased as a strong pain reliever, even competing against normally prescribed medications like opioids. To treat pain, cannabis also has anti-inflammatory properties that help ease the pain that is caused by inflammation. In a cancer patient, pain can quickly transition to neuropathy and become chronic, which is when a nerve gets damaged and it leaves the patient feeling weak, numb and an itching sensation in hands and feet.

One of the most common symptoms in cancer patients is nausea and vomiting, which are also side effects of chemotherapy treatment. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has even approved Dronabinol, which is a synthetic cannabinoid to treat nausea. This drug can not only help the symptoms, but it can cure them.

When the disease advances to more complicated stages, anorexia or cachexia can manifest. This is the loss of appetite that can bring the body down as people can experience unwanted weight loss and fat, followed up by tiredness and a reduction in normal abilities. There are several studies that show cannabis properties to increase the appetite, which brings many benefits for these patients who, if they can’t eat, could see the cancer evolve rapidly, possibly leading to death.
