Using cannabis to fight depression

Cannabinoids help to regulate the body’s endocannabinoid system and can control depression

If you were to tell a cannabis opponent that they have cannabinoids in their body, they would probably flip out. However, it’s true and science has already proven that they exist naturally in the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). This system, as research is showing, is responsible for the majority of what goes on inside us and, just like any machine, has to be well balanced. When it isn’t, this is when humans start to experience pain, cancer, anxiety and many other issues, including depression. Giving the ECS a boost of cannabis helps to rebalance the system, which is why it is proving to be a great additional to a depression treatment program.

Cannabinoids such as cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are being proven effective at offsetting issues with the ECS. They work, on different levels, with CB receptors in the ECS and help to regulate the system proper, filling gaps where it may have started to break down. More than just an old wives’ tale, this has already been identified and proven by science.

There was research conducted in 2014 that proved how CBD can be used to treat depression. It identified how CBD interacts with serotonin receptors in the body, which then leads to an emotional state that is more balanced. Similar studies have demonstrated how CBD and THC help counter mental trauma and reduce anxiety and stress levels, almost always without any ill side effects.

These revelations go a long way toward supporting the natural value of cannabis. As new research continues to spawn, more is being understood and cannabis is finally getting the recognition it deserves. This may not make opponents happy, but it’s hard to argue with science.
