Cannabis tourism could become commonplace across all of the US in just a few years

The cannabis culture used to be a private and reserved matter, but, with the market expansion and legalization that have been accomplished in recent years, this culture is also expanding to new areas. The cannabis industry is not all about the plant and its derivates from which great products are being marketed; it also includes experiences and services that can be offered even while on vacation. Based on a recent study conducted by MMGY Travel Intelligence, 87% of respondents strongly believe that cannabis for recreational use will be legal in most states in a matter of a few years, which can take cannabis tourism to a whole new level.

There are options out there for cannabis enthusiasts to go to when vacationing, but the options are not everywhere, nor are they solely focused on the cannabis experience. The same report noted that 66% of travelers in the US think positively of legalizing cannabis for recreational use, which is already legal in 11 states and Washington D.C. “Cannabis tourism is still in its infancy but has the potential to grow exponentially over the next few years,” MMGY Travel Intelligence Executive VP Chris Davidson asserts, “This study goes a long way in giving the industry actionable data to refine marketing strategies and develop new cannabis tourism offerings.”

Among those experiences that respondents said would attract them to visit a destination include visiting a dispensary, trying edibles or drinks infused with cannabidiol (CBD) or tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and even experiencing a CBD-based spa treatment. Another interesting observation made by the report is that most adults who showed interest in cannabis-related activities consider themselves as a foodie, beach bum, music aficionado or outdoor adventurer, which goes well with tourism.
