The well-known author wants to see the government follow through on marijuana reform

A very respected travel writer, the iconic Rick Steves, participated in a Leafly interview a few days ago, where he shared his opinion regarding the heavy regulations that are still falling on the cannabis market. His gained credibility has helped him advocate for legalization efforts as a self-proposed soldier part of the nonprofit marijuana group NORML as well as the Marijuana Policy Project. According to Steves, cannabis consumption is a right, and shouldn’t be prohibited by the government.

Among his recent projects, Steves is planning to advocate for legalization in Deep South and Midwest battleground states, “I just like to confuse people with what they expect they’re going to be dealing with,” he told Leafly. “I always like to say, ‘I’m a hard-working, churchgoing, kid-raising, taxpaying American. If I worked hard all day long and want to go home and stare at the fireplace for three hours, that’s my civil liberty.’ And then I get a big round of applause.”

He is actually about to appear live on June 9 as a keynote speaker during the International Cannabis Business Conference’s virtual symposium, which is also sponsored by Leafly. One of the main thoughts he shared during the interview is how he believes that “smoking marijuana responsibly as an adult is a civil liberty.” Steves truly believes that is someone wants to smoke marijuana responsibly, as an adult, they should be able to do it. He added that any prohibition is based on lies and racism and is counterproductive to society’s development. “I like to share the truth and I don’t like to see our country embracing lies and being afraid,” asserted Steves.
