How to enjoy marijuana at home while protecting children
Marijuana continues to shed its social stigma of being nothing more than something used by “burners” to get high and a “gateway drug” that leads to the use of stronger drugs. However, even though it is now more accepted, it is still important to protect children and ensure that they understand the pros and cons of marijuana consumption. A few tips from industry experts, and parents, is never a bad idea.
It doesn’t hurt to wait until the kids are asleep or away. Be discreet and consult with your partner so that both of you are on the same page regarding when and where to consume.
Children need to know. They’re curious sponges who take in everything around them. When the time is right, sit them down and discuss marijuana with them in a matter-of-fact way. Perhaps they’ll just see it as something boring that old people do and decide to stay away.
Don’t just talk about it – really talk about it. Give details, discuss the differences between smoking and vaping, how marijuana affects the body and mind and how its use needs to be taken responsibly. It’s the same way parents discuss driving or the birds and the bees. More information is much better than less and can protect your children.
Just like pharmaceuticals have used childproof caps for decades, cannabis needs to be kept safe and secure from curious little hands. Keep it locked away – especially edibles that would be most attractive to children.
