This Christmas could prove to be great for the cannabis industry

The holiday period is expected to bring more cannabis sales than ever before

As acceptance of marijuana and CBD (cannabidiol) products continues to grow along with expanded legalization as witnessed in the recent November 3 elections in the US, where all aspects of propositions presented to voters passed with room to spare, even Santa Claus is getting in on the action this year for Christmas time.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating for many industries. Restaurants and bars across the nation are closed down or working on a very limited seating basis. In the beginning, sales of cannabis-related products took a dip, like most other items for sale; however, soon afterward it was observed that sales were quickly back up to normal and in many cases exceeded pre-pandemic numbers.

Dahlia Mertens, founder and CEO of Mary Jane’s Medicinals, which specializes in CBD and cannabis-infused topicals, experienced a large dip in sales in April that was “one of our worst months of sales ever,” but has seen improvement since. Mertens explains, “However, sales quickly rebounded after that dip and the company’s growth this fall has been dramatic.” Branding of cannabis products is becoming more and more important in the industry today. Customer loyalty and name recognition play a large role. According to Mertens, “People want to spend money on a product that they already know works.”

The managing partner at Merida Capital Holdings, Mitch Baruchowitz, believes that more cannabis will be sold during this coming holiday season than ever before. He also noted that cannabis production and sales were deemed essential businesses during the pandemic. This helped to keep sales from dropping off.

Now that the holidays are here, it appears that 2020 just might be a very green Christmas for the cannabis industry.
