Staying healthier is possible with regular intake of cannabis
Historically, cannabis has been used for medicinal, spiritual, and recreational purposes for 6,000 years. This plant contains cannabidiol (CBD). The second most abundant cannabinoid compound in the Sativa plant, not only has medical benefits, but despite being a narcotic substance, it is not psychoactive.
Some of the health benefits of CBD are as an analgesic, anti-inflammatory, treatment of depressive disorders, anti-aging, antioxidant, antipsychotic, and anti-epileptic. There are many reasons to include it in a wellness routine.
CBD can regulate sleep cycles, resulting in people being able to sleep more deeply and relaxed. In a human study, it was found that individuals who were given CBD slept longer than those individuals who received the placebo. CBD inhibits the enzyme fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH). This protein has the function of degrading anandamide, an endogenous cannabinoid involved in sleep modulation.
CBD has been found to be a powerful antioxidant, as it reduces hydroperoxide (H2O2)-induced oxidative damage, so it could play an important role in the treatment of oxidative neurological diseases. As a result, it reduces damage at the molecular level by protecting protein structures. It prevents radical reactions, capturing or transforming free radicals into less active forms.
Because CBD is a modulator of the CB2 receptor, it has been found to have the property of decreasing pain and inflammation. The CB2 receptor is found in immune system structures, thus regulating the processes of pain and inflammation. CBD has been used to treat chronic pain, where it has been shown to contribute to the reduction of pain presented, for example, during advanced stages of cancer.
The skin also possesses the endocannabinoid system, so CB1 and CB2 receptors bind with endogenous anandamide to carry out skin care. However, in case of needing increased amounts of anandamide, it is not easy to achieve.
This is why the use of CBD helps to maintain homeostasis, the formation of a protective barrier, and the regeneration of the skin. If the skin cannabinoid system has been implicated in skin conditions such as acne, CBD may be the answer.
