This is the first year that fair visitors can legally consume cannabis

This year’s New York State Fair is approaching, and with it comes new changes that will undoubtedly please many marijuana enthusiasts. According to statements from an official starting this week, adults will be able to consume marijuana anywhere tobacco use is allowed. This is essentially because cannabis was legalized in New York earlier this year.

“State law allows marijuana consumption anywhere tobacco use is allowed,” said Dave Bullard, spokesman for the Fair. “Smoking is not allowed in the Fairgrounds buildings or in the open concert halls at Chevy Court and Chevy Park but is permitted in other outdoor venues. We encourage those who smoke to be considerate of those around them.”

Although retail stores are still not allowed to open their doors in the Empire State, penalties for public possession of marijuana have been repealed, meaning consumers are free to possess up to three ounces of cannabis or 24 grams of marijuana concentrates as long as they are 21 years of age or older. It is also known that eventually, domestic cultivation will also be approved, but this will not happen until regulators issue rules that officially allow it.

As for retail stores, they are expected to be able to open next year. However, there have been a few other hurdles in the way when it comes to establishing a regulatory board that will make the rules, as Governor Andrew Cuomo and key legislators have clashed over possible nominees.

Should events like the New York State Fair continue to be permissive of marijuana use, it is very likely that the plant’s boom in this state will begin to grow even bigger.
