Established consumer markets are being replaced by cannabis for employees

The marijuana industry is not only known to be experiencing amazing growth over the past few years, but it has also been an incredible pillar for the creation of job opportunities. Many people have immersed themselves in this space not only recreationally or medicinally, but have also been able to support their families through income by joining the workforce. Retail and restaurant employees are not left out, as they also have the opportunity to join this part of the community.

Jason Zvokel maintained a 15-year career as a pharmacist for Walgreens; however, he later turned to a marijuana dispensary, a different kind of pharmacy if you want to put it another way. With this change, Zvokel no longer fills prescriptions or administers vaccinations, but instead helps customers understand the different marijuana concentrates. While it’s true that the salary is a bit lower, he says the hours are more flexible, which also allows him to spend more time with his family. “I am so much happier,” said Zvokel, 46, who’s worked in retail since he was 18. “For the first time in years, I’m not miserable when I come home from work.”

The pandemic caused many of the retail and restaurant workers to be laid off some time ago. However, dispensaries and marijuana cultivation facilities, considered “essential,” later became a haven for many of these people. Unlike other jobs that have failed to fully recover after being hit hard by COVID-19, the marijuana industry continues to grow, creating nearly 80,000 jobs in 2020, more than double what it did the previous year.

This being the case, it is estimated that more than 320,00 Americans work in the industry, which represents a 32% increase over last year. Clearly, this makes legal marijuana one of the fastest growing sectors in the nation and demonstrates once again how many people are beginning to benefit in many ways.
