The rocker is behind a cannabis endeavor, 22Red
Shavo Odadjian, the bassist for the rock group System of a Down, is a snob, although he denies it. However, he is when it comes to cannabis. He admits to being a regular consumer for the past 25 years, and is now a professional curator of the plant. He, along with a childhood friend, has launched 22Red, a cannabis lifestyle company that “intertwines cannabis, music and fashion.”
Says Odadjian, “I only smoke the best. I only want the best. I’m not a snob, but I only want to represent quality. I don’t just want something that gets you high, I want something that makes you feel good and tastes good.”
22Red distributes cannabis-related products throughout California. It is also beginning to promote its own musical branch and sells apparel through its online store.
He adds, referring to Red22 and his business associate, “We talked about it forever, but because I was so busy with System of a Down, we never got around to it. System hasn’t done anything for a little while. I had written a lot of material for System and it’s kind of on hold until the four of us get into the studio together again.”
22Red offers a line of pre-rolls of the Church 22 strain, which Odadjian admits he hasn’t smoked “for about 20-some years.” It also offers an OG and a variety of vape pens. The rocker has become picky about the products offered and now only chooses strains from master growers. He adds, “We can’t sell any of the flower online, but we sell our apparel. We will also be selling our CBD pens online, which are hemp-based and legal in 50 states. There’s no THC, and it’s part of what I love about cannabis, the healing factor, stuff that actually takes pain away. I’m happy to be part of that movement.”
