More support comes from science for using cannabis to treat autism

The cases of autism in the US are one in every 68 children and, with more cases appearing with time, it looks like good timing that cannabis is recently making its way to legalization. Autism is a term that involves several spectrums of off behaviors considered abnormal by society, and so far no cure has been discovered for these conditions. According to some anecdotal evidence, cannabis oils that are rich in cannabidiol (CBD) can bring some help to these patients that required more attention and time from their parents due to this condition.

The journal Frontiers in Neurology published a recent study in which several patients with autism were treated with a certain dosage of CBD-enriched oil which led to noticeable and evident improvements in the interaction and communication these patients have with society, some other neurological positive effects were also reported. Back when the US started to allow medical cannabis to enter the market, the first medication prepared was to treat children with severe epilepsy. Apparently, there might a relation in the conditions that led to the brain to develop epileptic seizures with those that cause autism and that don’t have epileptic episodes.

CBD seems to be the compound in the plant that has a direct effect on treating this condition, as it was observed its effects as a neuroprotectant which can stimulate better brain functioning. Also acting as an anti-inflammatory substance, it has sound logic and science as to why it should be useful. For nine months, patients with autism received oil that contained mostly CBD. 4.6 milligrams of CBD per kilogram of body weight to 0.06 milligrams of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) was the dosage used on 18 patients in this study. An improvement of 30% was reported in at least one category, such as social interaction, sleep, and focus.
