Consuming cannabis could have permanent benefits on the gut

As a recent trending topic in the health industry, the healthiness of the digestive tract is getting increased attention from the medical community. As it plays a relevant role in an individual’s wellbeing, the things we eat and the substances used to digest, it becomes more important. New diets are rising to work specifically for certain health conditions and now cannabidiol (CBD) is starting to get attention for reported benefits to the gut’s health.

During a recent interview, Dr. Aimée Gould Shunney spoke about how important it is to have good bacteria in the digestive area. Shunney says that even if the mechanism is not yet understood, CBD offers benefits. “CBD is an immune modulator and a potent anti-inflammatory agent. In addition, it helps to balance the ECS ([endocannabinoid] system), and, therefore, has tremendous potential to positively impact a variety of digestive complaints,” she explained. Shunney was able to demonstrate the link there or connecting the anxiety, stress and emotional disorders, and the effects on the body’s digestive system. Managing stress in an efficient way definitely plays an important role in the stomach’s health.

There are some studies that actually support Shunney’s statements. One, 2017 research by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, looked into inflammatory bowel disease and the potential benefits of cannabinoids. The study actually recommends cannabis to fight a several conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Crohn’s disease. Cannabis can definitely represent an alternative and effective remedy for health conditions other than taking a large number of pills. According to another study, pills could end up also hurting the stomach and that, even if declared safe for consumption, they have a negative effect on the body’s normal bacteria.
