The rise in demand should help the state reduce its product surplus

Oregon is starting to harvest the revenue of a growing industry and, after marijuana legalization in the state, some motivating results were reported by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission. It seems to be that annual sales in the Beaver State are running high, increasing at a pace of $145 million every year. The total sales for 2019 are at $793 million, which represents a 22% increase. Based on what was reported by the Bend Bulletin newspaper, the total tax collected by the state from cannabis sales should have been around $110 million.

The county that most contributed to this number was Multnomah County, which held nearly 26% of the total sales for $204 revenue. It makes sense, given the fact that it is home to Portland, one of the cities with the highest populations. Another area in which sales presented higher figures is the border with Idaho, which at this point continues to consider illegal both medical and recreational marijuana sales. The other borders of the state, Washington, California and Nevada all have legal sales though there was an increase on the border with Idaho of 420% — It was reported by the Oregon Office of Economic Analysis on a curious note– Oregon has also been recognized for being of a more progressive vision and it was the first state to remove any convictions based on small amount possession, legal recreational sales are running since 2015.

Oregon is also home to some large cannabis business operators. One of these is Acreage Holdings, which opened its first growing establishment in the Beaver State just a month ago.
