The war to kill off the opioid market is helped by all-natural cannabis

The use of opioids, although it can sometimes result in positive effects for different ailments, in most cases has repercussions that end up being worse for human health. According to a study published in the journal Cureus, this may no longer be a problem, especially for patients with chronic pain. The use of medical cannabis means a drastic reduction in the use of prescription opioids. As a result, people are largely able to control their pain, without the need to be subjected to bothersome side effects or even addictive tendencies.

After a group of researchers met to evaluate opioid use trends in a cohort of more than 60 pain patients, they found that their enrollment in Delaware’s medical cannabis program had a strong influence on their original drug use. Both this study and a dozen other research studies indicate that subjects decreased their overall opioid use exponentially over time, with cannabis becoming the number one alternative in relieving the severe pain found in different parts of their body.

“The results of this study indicate that medical marijuana certification is associated with a decrease in prescription opiate use for chronic pain treatment and supports greater use of this adjunct treatment modality. Given the significance of opioid addiction in American society, any treatment or additional resource to reduce opioid overuse can aid in the multifactorial management of chronic pain. Although marijuana use causes a variety of side effects, the findings here suggest that the use of medical cannabis as an adjunct treatment for chronic pain may be beneficial to public health,” the researchers concluded.
