Appearing as a game show category shows that you’ve made it

Jeopardy! has been in the news a lot lately for the success seen by James Holzhauer. He has already won $2.2 million on the show and has 29 straight wins to his credit. He is now considered to be one of the greatest contestants to have appeared on the show, but another appearance is just as important. Marijuana has made it to the big leagues by showing up several times in the past several months in Jeopardy! questions.

This past April, a question was posed that looked for the link between cannabis and beer. The answer, of course, is hops. A couple of weeks later, host Alex Trebek uttered the words “Bubba Kush” for the first time ever on any game show when a question asked about the first legal sale of recreational marijuana in Denver.

Two marijuana-related questions in a single month. There are other, more popular topics that go years without ever appearing on the show. Marijuana is becoming part of everyday life, despite the misguided efforts of opponents, and continues to become a mainstream term.

The next couple of years are going to be extremely interesting. There is a lot going on globally on the legislative front, as well as the medical front. Barriers are being razed and cannabis is being cultivated. Given the fact that marijuana has been recognized for centuries for its medicinal benefits, it’s only fitting to say that it’s about time.
