Several cannabis strains are shown to be more effective at curbing stress and anxiety
Limonene is a type of terpene – a group of unsaturated hydrocarbons found in the oil of plants – that has become a popular additive of food and perfumes due to its citrus fragrance. It is a primary component of cannabis and several strains are more effective than others at treating anxiety and stress.
Dirty Girl has a moderately high level of limonene, but might vary due to cultivation. In some studies, limonene in Dirty Girl has been measured at 40% (40% of the measured terpenes were limonene) while others have shown only a 20% amount.
Kosher Kush, an indica, is another possible strain that can help reduce anxiety and stress. It, as well as Hindu Kush, are both limonene-dominant strains, although Kosher Kush isn’t the most prominent terpene in the plant’s composition.
The Cookie strain has a relatively high level of limonene, but isn’t limonene dominant – similar to Kosher Kush. It joins Cookies and Cream, GSC and Moon-Cookies as alternative strains with an abundance of limonene.
Limonene is perfectly safe to consume. However, it’s important to remember that moderation is key, as it is with anything. Adverse reactions have been reported in some individuals who consumed a dose that was more than one gram per kilogram of body weight. A person weighing 150 pounds could, theoretically, consume up to 68 grams without suffering any negative side effects.
