June is Pride Month and cannabis users can show their support to the LGBTQ community

Pride Month is here and legal marijuana in California has always wanted to celebrate the best way to show gratitude to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community. It has been said that this is mainly because activists fighting for access to medical marijuana for all those terminally ill patients who suffered during the HIV/AIDS epidemic of the 80s and 90s were a major point of support for California’s first medical marijuana law to be registered on the books 25 years ago. Cannabis enthusiasts can show their support for Pride Month and purchase products that are led by the LGBTQ community.

Since then, some states have wanted to lag behind, but others have followed suit and have already opted to legalize cannabis use. Although marijuana remains illegal at the federal level, many efforts have also proven capable of changing that in the future. Andrew Freeman, co-founder of LA-based cannabis brand Drew Martin, said, “You can draw a direct line between this particular period and the work of these queer activists and the legalization that created the modern cannabis industry in California.”

He adds, “However, sometimes it feels like history has been forgotten a little bit, especially when you look at queer representation in today’s cannabis space, which tends to be straight, white, and male. That doesn’t reflect the demographics of those who consume products, and it doesn’t reflect that of those who fought for decriminalization and legalization of the plant.”

Today, the LGBTQ community has several well-known marijuana brands throughout the Golden State and they have every intention of carrying their great support to celebrate this special month through the promotion of cannabis as well. Among the most prominent brands are Altered Plates, Besito, Cann, Calexo, Drew Martin, Laganja Estranja and many more.
