The actor, comedian and cannabis entrepreneur will feature on a Discovery Channel series
Jim Belushi has had no problem with the world knowing more about his business activities revolving around cannabis, and he is ready to go public about them in a newly announced Discovery Channel show. Belushi, 66, is an American actor, comedian and musician best known for his leading role in the sitcom “According to Jim,” although he has been in many other shows, as well. He has been immersed in the cannabis industry for a while now and the show, which will air for the first time on August 19, will take a look at Belushi’s cannabis farm along the Rogue River in southern Oregon.
“Everything grows in Growing Belushi. The Cannabis, the business, the family. And especially me. We almost called it Growing Pains,” Belushi told Deadline. He turned to the cannabis farming business after his brother, John, accidentally overdosed with a mix of cocaine and heroin known as “speedball,” so he consumed marijuana as a coping mechanism at the very beginning. He now has a 93-acre empire that he has continued to develop thanks to his fame and his high-quality products like Belushi’s Secret Stash and Captain Jack’s Gulzar Afghanica. “This is much more than a business for me. I’ve seen the positive impact that cannabis has had in treating people from around the world,” Belushi tells Deadline.
“We are always looking for a show that takes you by surprise and this one did — it’s fun and funny and has a lot of heart. I think people will see Jim Belushi in a whole new way after watching,” said Nancy Daniels, Chief Brand Officer of Discovery & Factual to Deadline. The show will count on the occasional presence of Dan Aykroyd and Judy Belushi, as well as musical appearances by The Blues Brothers.
