Developing a green thumb for cannabis doesn’t have to be a difficult process

With the recommendation of staying at home as much as possible due to the quick spread of the coronavirus, there is more time to spare at home. For some people, this could mean spending more time in the garden, which can bring an opportunity to include the cannabis plant among the green options, as it can grow greatly outdoors. There are simple steps to be followed to cultivate your own cannabis garden, and it’s easy to get a green cannabis thumb.

Before thinking about the most appropriate strain to plant or anything beyond that, the site in which the garden will become alive is the first step. It can either go in an existing veggie bed or out in the open, as long as it’s under the sun – it requires at least six hours of direct sunlight per day. A container can also work fine; the bigger, the better as the plant needs access to water (ideally drips) and well-fed soil.

Dispensaries also offer a different selection of seeds and clones ready to plant. Starting from the seed will take a long time, so it depends on the time of the season, although an auto-flowering seed will ripen a lot faster. Here you can choose based on the name or smell you like, and there is no need to sweat on this decision.

When you are ready to plant your marijuana plant, use plenty of compost. While you watch it grow, water the soil anytime it dries down to about half an inch. A supporting device similar to a tomato cage can help the plant support its weight as it grows its heavy flowers. Make sure to verify if the plant is female by checking the flower, tiny hears means females and round balls means males.

Lastly, the best time to harvest the flower will be defined by the time when half the stigmas (those hair-like strands sticking out from the buds) are amber and the other half are white. Pinching the flowers can also give you an idea, if they are still spongy then it’s not the best time yet.
