Cannabis-infused coffee could help reduce stress and anxiety

Coffee is the number-one beverage in the world. In the US alone, on average, 64% of the population has coffee every morning with an average consumption of 3.2 cups per day. Coffee has been known to cause some people to feel jittery due to the drink’s caffeine content, but a new take on the old habit could prove to be the perfect solution to the coffee shakes.

Research is showing that cannabis-infused coffee could reduce the amount of stress and anxiety experienced by coffee drinkers. To test the theory, coffee was infused with cannabidiol (CBD), which isn’t psychoactive and has already been shown to have an ever-increasing list of positive effects on the body.

CBD is one of 113 known cannabinoids found in cannabis. It has been proven effective to counter pain and inflammation, as well as a possible treatment for autism, epilepsy and, possibly, even cancer.

A cannabis-infused coffee was recently introduced by FutureYou, a company that specializes in cannabis supplements. Dr. Nicholas Shenker, who server’s on the company’s medical advisory board, said, “All over the world, people are using CBD – often in pharmaceutical doses – to address their health issues. CBD acts on endocannabinoid receptors that affect mood. Some people claim that it helps them to reduce stress and anxiety.”

So far, researchers have only made the claim that CBD coffee could reduce anxiety – it still has to be put to the test. That will reportedly happen next month when coffee drinkers will be given the opportunity to help FutureYou test its theory.
