Eric Holder thinks the US is headed toward nationwide cannabis legalization

Many experts and big businessmen in the marijuana industry have provided their comments regarding federal reform of the plant in the US. Now, a former attorney general has joined that thread of analysis, saying that the country is on a clear path towards the decriminalization of marijuana at the federal level, especially since many states have already opted to give the go-ahead to this famous plant.

Eric Holder, who years ago served as the nation’s top law enforcement official under President Barack Obama, made his thoughts known at a panel of marijuana police officers hosted by Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law yesterday. According to his critique, Holder says he feels positive and encouraged that the US is trending toward more lenient drug laws that treat addiction as a public health issue while saying that federal cannabis reform may inevitably be just around the corner.

According to Holder, the issue of the war on drugs has always been a sensitive one, costing people their livelihoods and taxpayer dollars. Fortunately, society has already found another direction and is accepting marijuana as a plant with many benefits. “Now, with regard to decriminalization, we are clearly on the path to decriminalizing marijuana,” he said. “You know it’s going to happen. We are on a glide path now.”

However, he believes that other substances that are currently illegal, such as cocaine and heroin face greater conflicts in efforts to be decriminalized. He added, “I have a difficult time trying to think about the decriminalization of other drugs, “given the fact that you see the negative impact that the use of these drugs has on people individually and then, individuals banding together, a negative impact on society at large.”

Be that as it may, already many voices have said that federal marijuana reform is imminent. Now it is only a matter of time to see if those words become prophecies, or are simply wishful thinking that will never come to pass.
