Pain is one of the most common reasons people turn to medical marijuana

Hearing someone talking about medical marijuana is common nowadays, given the rising amount of companies selling cannabis products and how much people are talking about it worldwide. More and more, doctors and patients are now aware of the powerful benefits medicinal cannabis can have; therefore, they are becoming more interested in trying its effects. One of the uses that have been expanding the most among medical marijuana patients is the treatment of chronic pain ailments.

The most interesting part is that cannabinoids don’t seem to have pure analgesic properties like other prescribed analgesics have, but the combination of properties somehow helps relieve the pain. Not only that, but, with the right mix of cannabinoids and terpenes, other aspects of people’s lives, like sleep and appetite, can be improved. For example, some patients have reported that their cannabis therapy hasn’t completely removed their pain, but it has certainly allowed them to cope better with their condition. This means that these patients are sleeping better at night, which translates into staying more active and even taking care of daily tasks without suffering. These marijuana therapies are bringing significant improvements to the patients’ quality of life.

Beyond helping relieve pain in all of its forms, different combinations of cannabis can be used to treat other conditions like nervousness, panic attacks, restlessness and stress disorders. As it interacts with a system in the body that has receptors all across the body’s cells, cannabis can be used to treat other painful conditions no matter the location, such as migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, psoriasis and insomnia. This could be a good treatment to bring to elderly patients as it has good tolerability and low interactions with other drugs.
