After 100 years of denial, cannabis is getting its rightful place in society

It is not exactly earthshaking news that marijuana is useful in several medically-related ways. After all, the cannabis plant has been part of the tribal and country healer’s bag of tricks since man began to record such things on cave walls. Even before today’s science entered the picture, the benefits of cannabis were well-established, and the recent explosion of the industry is an indication that most people are finally returning to their roots.

But during the first half of the 20th century in the US, as well as a vast part of the world as we know it, people began to villainize marijuana as being a dangerous drug that would lead the youth of America down the road to addiction and despair. They would say that cannabis consumption will lead our children to harder drugs from which they might never come back. Those were the sentiments echoed across America until marijuana was finally declared an illegal drug around 1931, a prohibition that would last in places for nearly 100 years.

Ironically enough, in the 21st century, marijuana and cannabis are being used and studied as miracle drugs. The number of benefits derived from CBD (cannabidiol) oil is just beginning to be tabulated and researchers are optimistic that there is more to be discovered about the cannabis than we already know.

What we do know is that marijuana and/or CBD products can help with pain and inflammation, depression and anxiety, and can even help control the horrors of epilepsy. Cannabis can also be a strong right arm to see patients thru chemotherapy sessions.
