The M&A activity in the cannabis industry continues as 2021 progresses, with more to come

There is yet another huge cannabis industry merger that is going on in Northern California. Humboldt County-based Emerald Family Farms (EFF) has entered an exclusive distribution agreement with one of the largest vertically integrated, multistate cannabis operators out of Chicago, Cresco Labs. Mergers and acquisitions have been predicted to see more activity this year, and this merger between Emerald Family and Cresco is just one example of what’s to come.

One of the largest distributors on the planet just signed an exclusive deal to purchase the entire harvest from the famous Emerald Triangle in Northern California, an area that has maintained a reputation for excellence and exclusivity for over 60 years now. Those cannabis experts in Humboldt know what they’re doing. Cresco has exclusive access to some of the finest natural sun grown marijuana on the planet.

What they are going to do with it remains to be seen. Most likely, it will go into the high-end jars or quality concentrates and pre-rolls at Cresco dispensaries that already have a reputation for presenting the highest quality products to their customers.

Regional President at Cresco Labs, David Gacom, said of the acquisition in a recent interview, “We have long admired and supported Emerald Family Farm’s (EFF) focus on environmental stewardship and social responsibility. Part of our success in expanding our California distribution network has been our ability to offer the highest quality craft flower. This Agreement continues to build on that strength with some of the best flower in California being added to our roster of top-performing California brands.”

He added, “Having brought hundreds of the region’s finest farmers under one banner, EFF’s success story is proof that exceptional cannabis and uncompromising values can coexist.”
