The author and comedian is the latest celebrity to speak out in favor of cannabis

Chelsea Handler is an author, talk show host, comedian and activist. She can now add cannabis investor to her long list of accomplishments, becoming the latest celebrity to publicly back the marijuana industry. Handler is now an investor of Civilized, a company with which she has had a history for the past year.

Handler has appeared alongside Civilized’s publisher and founder, Derek Riedle, several times on stage to discuss marijuana. She was also the keynote speaker at the 2018 World Cannabis Congress and was on the front lines as Canada was preparing to introduce legalized marijuana use last year.

The exact details of the investment have not been revealed, but Handler indicates that she plans on introducing her own line of marijuana. She is reportedly developing a strain to target female appetites and is a staunch supporter of the plant’s medical benefits. She said in an interview about the Civilized relationship, Cannabis has made a difference in my life, in the lives of my friends and people who have been reintroduced to it. Working with Civilized, I’ve seen how passionate they are about smashing outdated cannabis stereotypes while keeping people entertained, and it’s been a real inspiration. It’s more than just a media company, it’s a movement. And one I’m proud to be a part of.”

Riedle adds, “We’ve had a great relationship with Chelsea over the short time we’ve known her. She’s been an enthusiastic supporter of our mission to reimagine cannabis culture through smart content and meaningful events. She’s a true friend to the Civilized brand and we’re thrilled to have her on board as an investor.”
