CBD inhalers are closer to becoming reality

The ability to receive the benefits of CBD through an inhaler is on its way

It may be that cannabidiol (CBD) inhalers will go so far as to deliver an exact dose of medication directly to the lungs for relief of symptoms such as pain and, perhaps, one day, asthma. This would undoubtedly be considered the next big innovation in the world of medical cannabis. That idea has already been thought of by someone at Receptor Life Sciences in Seattle, who began developing an inhaler containing CBD in a dry powder format.

An inhaler would possibly be the most compact and convenient way to get your daily dose of CBD, as they are quick, simple, and have a 100% absorption probability. This ambitious method has seven times more bioavailability and ten times more absorption than conventional CBD oil.

Simply put, it is one of the best ways to deliver CBD. It’s a matter of just imagining medicating with a click of an index finger, a deep inhale, and holding your breath, only to exhale and leave no trace of odor.

This method of medication could cease to be an illusion if the inhaler/powder combination gets the green light from the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Phase 1b clinical trial. This process would test the safety and efficacy of the product.

The product is called RLS103. It is an inhalation powder containing “synthetic CBD and FDKP, an FDA-approved inhalation excipient,” the company’s website states. “In an initial proof-of-concept pharmacokinetic clinical pharmacokinetic study, RLS103 provided immediate CBD absorption with a peak concentration less than 4 minutes after inhalation.”

Such a product holds the promise of being the first treatment of its kind for acute anxiety disorders. In addition, the experts behind its development indicate that the data will guide future research on other psychiatric and neurological disorders. If given the go-ahead, the new medication concept could enter the edible CBD market.
