CBD can help break the cigarette habit

CBD oil might be a great way to wean off of nicotine

Kicking the tobacco habit has been described as being as difficult as dropping cocaine. It’s a difficult process that, while not as detrimental as smoking, can lead to different health issues until well after the habit is stopped. Fortunately, there might be a better way and it doesn’t involve any nicotine patches, gums or psychotherapy. It could be as easy as turning to cannabis, specifically, the cannabis compound cannabidiol (CBD).

CBD oil is finding support as a method to help smokers get away from cigarettes. In one study, smokers were divided into two groups – one was given a CBD inhaler and the other a placebo inhaler. They were instructed to use the inhaler every time they had the urge to light up, and the results showed that those using the CBD inhaler increased their cigarette use by 40% during the treatment. Those who had been using the placebo didn’t change their habits.

This led the researchers to assert, “CBD might mean these positive smoking memories are gradually erased. This (40%) was more than expected. However, it is difficult to compare to other smoking cessation therapies as we did not ask people to stop smoking, simply to try using the inhaler when they wanted a cigarette.”

While the idea of using an inhaler for CBD oil may not be the preferred method, the results show that there is some validity to the idea of using CBD to quit smoking. More research will uncover the how and the why, and could also determine if there are alternative methods of CBD oil intake that would produce the same results.
