Cannabis for dealing with stress

Cannabis can help reduce stress and enable a more fulfilling life

Stress is bad news. While stress can sometimes be limited to just minor instances of heightened pressure due to outside influences, long-term stress can cause issues with the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, nervous and gastrointestinal systems, according to the American Psychological Association. Surprising to some, stress contributes to all of the six leading causes of death. However, cannabis use could be a natural solution to combat stress and live a longer, healthier life.

Marijuana use has been around for over 10,000 years. This is because our ancestors recognized the value it possessed. It only became illegal after governments decided to castigate it – without fair scientific research – and forced it underground.

Cannabis has already been proven to help with inflammation, aches, chronic pain, anxiety, insomnia and a host of other health issues. All of these have a common thread – they lead to stress. Stress can lead to more severe health problems, which can ultimately lead to death.

Two years ago, HealthAffairs published a report on cannabis after doing some research into Medicaid from 2007-2014. What the researchers found was astonishing. They asserted that, if all states had medical marijuana laws in 2014, Medicaid could have saved as much as $1 billion.

There are those that will continue to fight against marijuana legalization, even though they have no scientific basis upon which to build their arguments. However, the die has already been cast and cannabis is finally receiving the respect it deserves. If you don’t need cannabis to fight cancer or Alzheimer’s or pain, perhaps occasional consumption is in order just to help deal with the stresses of everyday life.
