It’s becoming easier to access cannabis as portable delivery options become available

Since the beginning of the pandemic, many businesses have been highly affected. However, it seems that in San Jose, CA, the cannabis industry has had one of the best seasons so far. According to local retailers, this is mainly due to the delivery service. According to San Jose Police Department Division Manager Wendy Sollazzi, tax revenues for the fiscal year 2020-21 are expected to be a huge benefit, with an estimated $17 million. Undoubtedly, this has been the most profitable year since Prop. 64 legalized recreational retail stores five years ago, and much of the growth can be traced to better accessibility through deliveries and pickups.

It’s no secret to anyone that California is already the quintessential cannabis state, which in fact reached its highest annual sales figures since recreational sales began in 2018. It is more than clear that the new accessibility services have played an important role for this to become a fact. According to various reports, the plant raised more than $4.4 billion in the state throughout 2020, doubling the efforts raised in 2019. Retailers have expressed that pandemic restrictions meant they had to pull an AS up their sleeves, and, through online ordering, delivery, and curbside pickup they have been able to stay afloat, receiving revenue they never imagined.

“Online orders for delivery, or someone placing an order and going to the store to pick it up, increased 51% during the pandemic,” said Dennis O’Malley, CEO of The Parent Company, which operates the Caliva-based San Jose, cannabis retailer. On the other hand, Airfield Supply Company spokesman Chris Lane said the company began to implement different key elements, including convenience and expanded ordering options so that the customer base continues to see an increase amid a global pandemic that is not yet over.
