A CBD-encapsulated fabric treatment is being billed as a sleep aid

Devan Chemicals is known for being a leader of finishing technologies for textiles. It recently showcased some of its latest products at the Heimtextil expo in Frankfurt, Germany and introduced a completely novel approach to the use of cannabidiol (CBD). It has created a CBD-encapsulated fabric treatment that helps promote a good night’s sleep.

According to a statement by the company, “Millions of people suffer from insomnia, insufficient sleep or other sleep disorders. Revitalising the body through sleep is vital for all.” The company has added CBD to its R-Vital range of microencapsulated active ingredients that help improve rest. “This rich CBD tincture or extract has a balancing effect that helps facilitate a good night’s sleep,” according to Devan.

The R-Vital products can be added to everything – bedding, sleepwear and any other type of textiles. Devan asserts that, when the skin comes in contact with the fabric, the resulting friction leads to the capsules breaking, which releases the microcapsules’ ingredients.

“Since skin is our body’s largest organ,” explains Devan, “it is ideal for transporting these ingredients, adding comfort, care and well-being to the body while sleeping.”

The company adds, “Originating from ancient civilisations in Asia, CBD-rich hemp has long been used for its positive health benefits. Devan has succeeded in encapsulating this CBD, which is extracted from hemp, a non-psychoactive type of cannabis.”

The concept certainly sounds interesting. With both hemp and CBD receiving more support in the U.S., it will hopefully be only a short time before R-Vital is found in bedding on the shelves of Walmart and Target.
