Portland’s KingPins bowling alley is taking bowling to a whole new level
At the beginning of this month, a unique gathering was held in Portland, OR. The KingPins bowling alley hosted the CannaBowl, a cannabis-friendly bowling event that was organized by The Daily Leaf and Confident Cannabis. The event turned out to be a smash hit, with exhibitions, contests, bowling and good times for everyone.
Lining the halls of KingPins on February 5 were booths manned by cannabis vendors, such as Deans Greenz, a local dispensary, and testing lab Cascadia Labs. Virtually every kind of cannabis business had a presence there, with different promotions and gimmicks to attract consumers.
Confident Cannabis VP of Growth & Marketing Brad Bogus stated, “The Oregon market needs some fun and relief. It was great to be able to don some fun bowling outfits, let our guards down, and just enjoy each other’s company.”
Contests were held for the “Best Dressed” individual, while, in the lanes, most strikes and lowest/highest scores also took home prizes. The bowling tournament offered a top prize of $5,000.
Andy Yashar, the co-founder of The Daily Leaf, explains, “CannaBowl is built with a business conference premise and an afterparty feel to it. We feel that people tend to have more meaningful conversations when they let their guard down and have fun at our events.”
There were 32 bowling teams competing this year – 20 more than last year. This was because the event has become so popular. Yashar adds, “We really try and bring in a mix of old and new brands and dispensaries every year. This helps us make the event feel new and fresh every time we have one. We welcome all companies that are involved in the cannabis industry to join. We had a K9 protection service company out this year and it was great to show diversity to our patrons.”
The recipe seems to be working well, based on the growth increase from last year to this one. It will be interesting to see what’s on tap for next year’s CannaBowl.
