The cannabis awareness event will be held September 19 to 26

It has long been known that black communities have had a strong battle regarding the legalization of marijuana. In an effort to raise awareness, Black Cannabis Week has been created. Considered one of the leading platforms to increase the value of this type of community, it returns for a week of free virtual and in-person events. Those interested in attending will have the opportunity to do so for seven consecutive days, from September 19 to 26. Organizations such as the Philadelphia Cannabis Business Association (PCBA), Minorities for Medical Marijuana (M4MM), Diasporic Alliance for Cannabis Opportunities (DACO), and other cannabis groups and industry leaders will be in attendance.

The idea of Black Cannabis Week is to engage and connect with a global community across the African Diaspora in order to have relevant findings, including hours of education with over 30 featured speakers, an expungement fair, a free cannabis certification and even political roundtable discussions with legislators such as Pennsylvania State Senator Sharif Street on emerging cannabis legislation and stakeholders in the cannabis community.

“Black and Brown communities have been an afterthought in the evolving global cannabis industry. If we fail to prepare and learn now, we will be too far behind to enter into this emerging field. It’s imperative that we learn the facts about cannabis, the unjust laws that have created the stigma, explore opportunities for empowerment, and reduce the barriers to help more Black and Brown communities switch from consumers to decision-makers which is our mission with Black Cannabis Week,” shares Cherron Perry-Thomas, Social Impact Strategist of DACO and founder of the Cannabis Opportunities Conference.

The Cannabis Opportunities Conference has been a perfect complement to Black Cannabis Week for several years. Different virtual forums will be presented daily to emphasize the importance of the myriad aspects of the cannabis industry.
