Bernie Sanders says he has the perfect marijuana reform solution

If Sanders is elected President, marijuana reform would be automatic

This year has already seen a substantial amount of progress made toward marijuana reform, but there is still a lot to be done. Bills have been introduced to help veterans, to provide more research, to open banking channels and much more; however, nothing concrete is happening.  There is plenty of talk and not enough action, but Bernie Sanders says he has the perfect solution. It just might take another year and a half for it to be implemented.

If Sanders is selected as the Democratic candidate to take on Trump, or some other Republican, in the Presidential elections and if he is able to win, marijuana reform could be virtually automatic. Sanders is out on the campaign trail and the long-time marijuana reform proponent is sticking to his platform, convinced that highlighting his stance on reform will help him win. If he does, he believes a simple executive order will legalize marijuana.

During a recent interview with Joe Rogan on the Joe Rogan Experience, Sanders asserted, “When I ran for president for the Democratic nomination in 2016, I talked about a broken criminal justice system, which ends up having in the United States more people in jail than any other country. And what I call for then, and I call for now, is the legalization of marijuana in America.

“That [marijuana’s Schedule I classification] is insane. Heroin is a killer drug. You can argue the pluses and minuses of marijuana, but marijuana ain’t heroin. So we have to end that, and that’s what I will do as president of the United States. I believe we can do that through executive order, and I will do that.”

There are a lot of “ifs” that have to play out perfectly for Sanders to be able to make his wish come true. He has a long road ahead and is well behind Joe Biden, according to the New York Times, but there is still more time to drum up support and perhaps his promise to legalize marijuana will give him enough of a push to move up in the polls.
