The “Mad Signtist” has a little too much free time on his hands, but leaves a very creative mark

Marijuana is still a topic that brings a lot of negative stigmas when it comes to acceptance from the general population, so having a cannabis plant leaf posing as a traffic light at an intersection gives a lot to talk about. A prankster who identifies himself as the “Mad Signtist” is responsible for doing just that, turning the green light in stoplights in North Spokane into cannabis leaves. The report was made by a senior digital producer at KREM, Kaitlin Riordan, who shared a post from the NextDoor app last Thursday and provided the leaves at the Nevada Street and Bridgeport Avenue intersection as evidence.

“I had to do a double-take. How the heck did it get in there?” wrote one user in one post. The story became popular fast and the comment section was filled with dozens of replies. KREM took the time to send someone out to confirm the story and photojournalist Nathan Brand reported that he saw several traffic lights at this intersection quite green.

A spokesperson from the City of Spokane, Marlene Feist, said a few days ago that the office hasn’t received any reports about what this prankster has been doing, explaining only that they were already working on having those cardboards additions removed. So far, this has been the only place where these figures have been placed, according to the city. “People are very creative,” Feist wrote in an email to KREM. “Our biggest concern would be for the safety of the installer and the motorists using the street. Nevada is one of our busiest north-south arterials.”
