23 years proves cannabis helps fight autism

A mother’s account of using CBD to treat her daughter’s autism shows how successful it is

Isabella Lagano was born with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). When she was just nine months old, she was already suffering seizures that would sometimes last as long as 50 minutes. As soon as she was at an age to start taking medication, she was given three different prescriptions, but these only made things worse. None of the pharmaceutical drugs provided appropriate relief, so Isabella’s mother, Laura, finally called it quits. The licensed dietician turned to cannabis in 2014, starting a treatment for her daughter that included cannabidiol (CBD). Since then, she hasn’t looked back.

Growing up, Isabella couldn’t communicate and couldn’t interact with others. She had to constantly be monitored and attend speech therapy classes. When desperation set in, Laura began putting CBD in her daughter’s smoothies and everything changed. Her anxiety virtually disappeared, she was able to focus and her language skills, further damaged by apraxia, improved.

The results are similar to what Israeli scientists reported last year. They conducted a study that showed that 80% of autism patients who participated in a study saw tremendous relief of their symptoms. Communication improved, disruptive behavior decreased and anxiety and stress all but went away.

Now that Isabella is able to talk properly, she gladly acknowledges the strides she has made from CBD. She explains, “I enjoy my mother helping me with my food and supplements because I feel better.  I take CBD I feel less anxiety. It helps me throughout my day.”

Her mother, who became an expert on CBD and wrote a book on the subject, adds, “The two-way communication between the gut and the brain is a superhighway directed by the endocannabinoid system. So, it’s no surprise that cannabis impacts autism. This ancient plant can change the lives of individuals with special needs.”
